Conceptions of Library and Information Science (CoLIS) June 2 – 5, 2025, Glasgow, Scotland (UK)
Conceptions of Library and Information Science (CoLIS) is a series of international conferences aiming to provide a broad forum for the exploration and exchange of ideas in the field of Library and Information Science, Information Studies, and related disciplines. It welcomes diverse contributions offering empirical, theoretical, and historical perspectives.
The 12th conference in the series will be jointly organised by the iSchool at the Dept of Computer and Information Sciences, University of Strathclyde, and will take place in person from 2–5 June 2025 at the Technology Innovation Centre, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland, UK .
Conference themes
The theme of the conference is – as indicated by the name CoLIS – Conceptions (ideas, approaches, theories, and so forth) of Library and Information Science (LIS). This concerns the well-established and emerging LIS subfields, which include but are not limited to:
- Archival studies
- Artificial Intelligence in LIS, including ethical aspects
- Bibliometrics, scientometrics, webometrics
- Critical librarianship
- Digital heritage
- Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in LIS, incl. curricula decolonisation and epistemic injustice
- History and philosophy of information
- Information architecture
- Information behaviour and practices
- Information literacy and related literacies
- Information systems
- Interaction design and user experience
- Interactive information retrieval
- Knowledge management
- Knowledge organisation
- Library studies
- Practices of literary and cultural dissemination
- Social Media
- Scholarly communication
- The social values of reading and literature
We welcome submissions on all aspects of the subject, including information science, information systems, library science, archives, records management, and digital humanities.
Submission categories
Authors can submit their work in the following categories:
- Full Papers: Original and unpublished research of relevance to CoLIS may be submitted as a full paper. The maximum length of a full paper is 5500 words + references.
- Short papers: Similarly to full papers, short paper submissions must describe original and unpublished work. A short paper could present a more focused study of smaller scope than a full paper. For example, work in progress, preliminary research analysis, or late-breaking results are suitable for short papers. The maximum length of a short paper is 2000 words + references.
- Panels: Organize discussions on specific topics or emerging trends. Panels should be designed for 90 minutes.
- Alt-events: Proposals for 90-minute alternative event sessions are invited for high- interactive engagement, which can include (but are not limited to) fishbowls, storytelling, and demos/exhibition.
- Posters: Extended abstracts for poster sessions are intended for the presentation of initial results, and presenting a poster is also a good way in which to discuss and receive feedback on a work in progress that has not been fully developed into a paper.
- Doctoral Workshop: PhD research submissions are invited on relevant topics for CoLIS. This consortium offers doctoral students the opportunity to receive feedback on their research.
Accepted long and short papers will be published in the Information Research journal.
